The race for the Bundesliga’s Golden Boot is likely coming down to two players: Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski and Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Sure, there are outsider candidates like Bayer Leverkusen’s Chicharito, but it would be hard to argue against the fact that Lewandowksi and Aubameyang are the front runners.
On Friday, Lewandowski scored three goals as he led Bayern to their big 6-0 victory over Werder Bremen. Before the final whistle was even blown, Aubameyang sent the following tweet to Lewandowski.
@lewy_official wow and the race is started. hat-trick
— Aubameyang P-E (@Aubameyang7) August 26, 2016
Aubameyang wouldn’t get the opportunity to respond to Lewandowski’s hat trick until the following day. On Saturday, Aubameyang scored two goals in Dortmund’s 2-1 victory over Mainz.
Lewandowski was quick to point out that, after one match, he was on top.
@lewy_official vs @Aubameyang7 3:2! ;)
