Germany will say goodbye to one of their greatest ever players next week during the nation’s friendly match against Norway. For the 121st and final time, Bastian Schweinsteiger will wear the Germany shirt.
The Bayern Munich players in the squad are Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Mats Hummels and Thomas Müller Jerome Boateng was not called in as he continues to recover from injury. Boateng is expected back after the international break. There are also four former Bayern players in the squad: Schweinsteiger, Toni Kroos, Mario Götze, and Emre Can.
This was also supposed to be Lukas Podolski’s Germany farewell, but he will miss the match due to an injury. Germany do plan on giving him a call-up in the future to say goodbye.
Germany will play a friendly against Finland on August 31 and a World Cup qualifier against Norway on September 4. The Germans are now focused on defending their World Cup trophy with a trip to Russia in 2018.
