Despite having missed the last two weeks of training as he recovered from a minor injury, Renato Sanches was named to Bayern Munich’s bench for their big beatdown of Werder Bremen on Friday. Now, the Euro 2016 winner has been named to the Portugal squad for the upcoming international break.
Sanches was one of the biggest stars in France for the European Championship, and this Portugal team will be built around him for the foreseeable future. Move over Cristiano Ronaldo, there’s a new star on the block, and he wears Bayern red.
Obviously, the goal here from a Bayern Munich perspective is that Sanches comes back to the Munich without picking up an injury. Hopefully, Bayern will take the field against Schalke following the international break with Sanches as an option.
Portugal will play a friendly on September 1 against Gibraltar and a World Cup Qualifier against Switzerland on September 6.
