Can he hit the magical number?

The 2015-16 season was a great one for Robert Lewandowski. The Polish forward won the Torjägerkanone as the Bundesliga’s leading scorer with 30 goals and finished the season with 42 goals in all competitions.

On Friday, Lewandowski opened his account for the 2016-17 campaign with three goals against Carl Zeiss Jena in the DFB Pokal. That got me thinking. Can Robert Lewandowski score 50 goals in all competitions this season?

His 42 goals last season were the most since Der Bomber Gerd Müller was banging in goals for Bayern in the 1970s. Müller put away a staggering 55 goals during Bayern’s 1972-73 season, aided in large part by 36 goals in the Bundesliga. For Lewandowski to reach the magical 50 mark, he’ll need to hit similar figures in the league this year.

So, this season, we’re going to track Lewandowski and his quest to break the fifty goal mark in what I have dubbed “Robert Lewandowski and the Quest for 50 Goals”.

Do you think Robert Lewandowski can get to the 50 goal mark this season? How many goals will he score?
