Bayern Munich’s newest signing missed a few games thanks to an injury.

Germany won their first ever Olympic gold medal on Friday. Their 2-1 victory over Sweden meant that Germany became only the third country to ever win the Olympic gold (USA 1996, 2004, 2008, 2012 and Norway 2000).

After the final whistle, Germany’s Anja Mittag put on Simone Laudehr’s jersey in the celebrations. During the gold medal ceremony, Mittag would hold up another Laudehr jersey.

Laudehr injured her ankle in Germany’s first game at the Rio games and suffered ligament damage. After waiting to see if she would heal in time to take part in more games, Germany eventually decided to replace her on the roster with an alternate.

Bayern Munich announced the signing of Laudehr at the very beginning of the summer, as they began rebuilding the squad for the 2016-17 season. She is expected to be ready to go before the start of the Frauen Bundesliga season. After winning the league two years in a row, the club expect to make a big impact in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League.
