After winning 2015 Poland’s Footballer of the Year, Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has been named Player of the Season in a poll conducted by football magazine 11 Freunde. The Polish international claimed 52 votes, followed by Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on 47 votes and Bayern Munich teammate Thomas Müller on 31 points.
Robert Lewandowski finished as the Bundesliga's top scorer by scoring 30 goals during the 2015-16 season for Bayern Munich. In doing so, he became the first player to reach the 30 goal plateau in over 39 years and the first non-German ever to hit the mark. Lewandowski won the Torjagerkanone, when he finished ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who scored 25 goals last campaign.
Lewandowski commented on the title:
"I'm very proud of this accolade. The jury consists of many personalities who have achieved everything in football. I'd like to thank my team-mates in particular, they made it very easy for me to score last year. I hope we'll have similar success in the upcoming season."
Keep it going Lewa!
