The summer is finally over, and it's time to kickstart Bayern Munich's season. The first "real" match will take place in front of the always raucous crowd at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund. The German Supercup is, once again, the match that most fans want to see: Borussia Dortmund vs. Bayern Munich.
Bayern head into the match, as they do most matches these days, as the favorite to win their first Supercup since Jupp Heynckes was the manager. In the three years under Pep Guardiola, Bayern dropped all three trophies, twice to Dortmund and once to Wolfsburg.
The responses to Mario Götze and Mats Hummels will be interesting to see. With Götze, it's the return of a former hero that turned villain that is back as a hero. For Hummels, it's nearly the exact opposite. Expect Bayern's new centerback to hear the full rage of the Yellow Wall as they rage against their former captain rejoining his boyhood team.
When you take into consideration the absences that Bayern are facing due to injuries, the match could be all up for grabs. I still like Bayern's chances at lifting their first Supercup in four years.
