Portugal and France will play in the Euro 2016 Final on Sunday afternoon, and one thing is absolutely true. A Bayern Munich player will win the European Championship. Renato Sanches will likely be on the field from the start for Portugal, while Kingsley Coman will hope to earn a substitute appearance for the hosts.
If Sanches steps onto the field on Sunday, he will become the youngest player to ever play in a Euro Final. He’s had a remarkable tournament to date including three starts, two substitute appearances, and two goals against Poland (one in the penalty shootout). He also led the counterattack that produced the game winning goal against Croatia.
Sanches has started the quarterfinal and semifinal, so it’s expected that he will start against France. His never-ending engine and ability to instantly turn defense into offense has been indispensable for Portugal in this run to their first Final since their shocking 2004 loss to Greece.
For Coman, the semifinal was the first game in which he didn’t make an appearance at Euro 2016. The winger has started two matches and been a substitute in three of them as France tries to win their first international competition since Euro 2000. Coman has been solid in all five appearances so far, but he has great competition at the winger position for France. It’s likely that Coman starts the Final from the bench.
