One day after Germany was eliminated in the semifinals of Euro 2016, Bayern Munich received some bad news from star centerback Jerome Boateng. Following a visit with Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt, Boateng revealed to the reporters on hand that his injury is serious.
"This will be tight, I cannot promise it,” Boateng said when asked if he would make it for the start of the season under new head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Boateng came off around the hour mark of Germany’s 2-0 loss to France on Thursday. The injury is similar to the one that sidelined Boateng for the majority of the Rückrunde. Hopefully, this will be nowhere near as serious as that injury was.
Without the world’s best centerback available at the start of the season, Ancelotti will have to turn to Mats Hummels and either Holger Badstuber or Joshua Kimmich. It will almost assuredly be Badstuber if he’s healthy and ready to go.
EDIT: I’m leaving the original article without any edits, but I completely forgot about Javi Martinez. He can also play centerback if needed. Sorry.
