Arjen Robben leaves Bayern Munich friendly with injury

He pulled up lame in the 35th minute.

In the midst of shredding SV Lippstadt like the Arjen Robben of old, something really bad happened. While sprinting after a ball, Robben pulled up reaching for his right groin area. Carlo Ancelotti brought on U19 player Mario Crnicki to replace him.

Robben walked off the field on his own but was favoring his right leg as he did. This is terrible news for Robben, who has been working extra hard at Säbener Straße this summer (alongside Holger Badstuber) to get ready for the new season. For a lesser player without Robben’s drive to be great, this could potentially be a devastating mental set back.

Alongside Julian Green, Robben was phenomenal in the first half. His ability to run at defenders with and without the ball was causing all sorts of problems for the opponents, and he managed a goal for his efforts.

Bayern confirmed the injury via Twitter, noting that the severity is yet to be known.

Hopefully, the injury is nothing serious, and Robben will return to the field as soon as possible.
