Days into their new season and Bayern Munich are rolling out their new away strip in training. While the early leaked renderings were fairly ugly, the finalized version features some nice detailing and color choices and is quite unlike anything that the team has rolled out in the last six years.
The Jersey and Colors

First things first: INFRARED IS BACK BABY! Not that is ever really left as it’s been a piping detail on many of their kits since the 2012/2013 season but this is really the first time that the detailing is the most prominent piece of the kit since the treble winning season. The rest of the kit is a two-tone gray/black combo with a sash styling.
That serves three functions: a) to make the infrared piping pop lock and drop it, b) to give the kit a stylized sash-like rendering that gives it a flair of character rather than looking like a pair of pajamas and c) to make those corporate money dollars hum. The new Bayern home kit features white striping and along with the collar the Deutscher Telekom logo gets lost. This kit has the exact opposite impact with the white-on-black motif for the sponsorship.
The Shorts and Socks
The socks are black but they feature the new tri-diamond pattern in infrared that was a big piece of the trim pattern on last season’s home kit. They are about as awesome as football socks can really be.
The shorts are black. Like the soul of Chelsea football club.
Overall Grade
Solid, if unspectacular. The two-tone neutral colors on the jersey are definitely going to be off putting for some people. I personally really like them. This is certainly a far better away kit than we’ve seen in the past two seasons after the relatively benign tri-color white of last season and the horrifying Abercrombie palate wannabe’s of 2014/2015.
