Spending much of the past few months looking for a change of scenery that would net him more time on the field, Bayern’s former 17-year-old breakout player Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is official moving on.
Announced by Premier League club Southampton this evening, the talented 20-year-old midfielder is headed to the south coast of England.
While many felt Højbjerg still had plenty of potential to offer, after falling out of favor following the 14-15 campaign and spending his past season on loan with Schalke (following a separate loan stent at Augsburg), it was seemingly only a matter of time before he’d have to embrace a new challenge with a new club.
"Of course I'm very pleased, it's a big opportunity," Højbjerg told Southampton’s official website. "I like everything -- the training centre, the people and I am feeling very positive about this.
"I look forward to giving what I can to the club. They trust me, and I want to show them that they are not wrong."
Bayern had been hoping for a €12 million purse for the Danish international. It would appear FCB did their trademark good business once again as the rumored fee is said to be around €15m.
