Renato Sanches doesn’t like picking “normal” numbers for his jersey. During his time at Benfica, Sanches wore the number 85. However, he has not chosen that number to wear at Bayern Munich. The 18 year old will be wearing number 35 when he puts on a Bayern shirt for the first time.
Sanches had an otherworldly Euro 2016 for such a young player. He broke a lot of records for “Youngest Player” including being the youngest player to start in a European Championship Final and the youngest player to win the tournament.
Last season, only one Bayern regular wore a jersey number higher than 30. That was Joshua Kimmich and his number 32.
As for when we’ll actually see him in that Bayern jersey for the first time, that remains to be seen. It’s like that Sanches, like the rest of the Bayern players involved in Euro 2016, won’t be joining the club until they are in the United States on their summer tour. Those games are July 27 in Chicago against AC Milan, July 30 in Charlotte against Inter Milan, and August 3 in East Rutherford against Real Madrid.
