Brazil announced their squad for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and Bayern Munich’s Douglas Costa is one of the headliner names in the squad. He is joined by other Brazilian European stars Neymar, Fred, and Rafinha Alcantara (Thiago’s younger brother).
The players will get together on July 18 before a final pre-tournament friendly against Japan on July 30 in Goiânia.
Brazil will play South Africa on August 4 in Brasilia, Iraq on August 7 in Brasilia, and Denmark on August 10 in Salvador. The Olympic Final is played on August 20 in Rio de Janeiro.
If Brazil does make it all the way to the Final, Costa will miss all of the preseason under new head coach Carlo Ancelotti, along with the club’s DFB Pokal First Round game. He would also likely miss the first match in the Bundesliga, as it is set to begin on August 26.
Luckily, Bayern have three wingers that are of a quality high enough to offset the loss of Costa in Kingsley Coman and the “they should be healthy” duo of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.
