When Carlo Ancelotti takes over Bayern Munich this summer, he will become the fourth head coach that the club has had since 2009. However, consistency is one of the keys behind Bayern’s success over the years, and there has been consistency in the coaching ranks even with these changes.

Behind Louis van Gaal, Jupp Heynckes, and Pep Guardiola there was one familiar face. He will also be there behind Ancelotti. That man is Hermann Gerland. According to various reports, Gerland will be joining Ancelotti’s staff in a similar fashion to how he was with Guardiola.

Keeping Gerland on the coaching staff is a brilliant move for consistency for the Bavarians, and there are few better in the business than Der Tiger.

Gerland turned down an opportunity to return to his hometown club VfL Bochum to take over the coaching job to remain at Bayern back in 2013.

"Martin, there were times when I'd have really liked to work in Bochum again, but now I'm at the best club in the world. I enjoy every day because I'm working with the best players in the world. Every training session is a pleasure and I look forward to it every morning. I'd lose all of that."

With Gerland remaining on the staff, there will be some continuity carrying over from the Guardiola era to the Ancelotti era. Hopefully, the same success and trophy winning continues as well.
