Jogi Löw called Joshua Kimmich up to Germnay's senior national team for the first time as the squad preps for June's Euro 2016 in France. In their first friendly match against Slovakia, the Bayern Munich midfielder/defender was awarded not only his first cap but his first start for his country

Kimmich started on the right side of a back three for Löw. His other two partners at the back were Jerome Boateng and Antonio Rüdiger. Jonas Hector and Sebastian Rudy played as wing backs.

It's going to be difficult to take anything from the match as a whole due to the weather conditions. The second half was marred by standing water on the field which made it difficult to complete even the simplest pass.

For his part, Kimmich played well in defense. His passing ability out of the back was a big part of many of Germany's attacks in the first half. At this point, it's likely that Löw will be taking Kimmich with the rest of the squad to France.
