Bayern Munich centerback Mats Hummels will likely miss Germany's opening match at Euro 2016 in France. Hummels has been suffering from a calf injury and is currently slated to miss about three weeks.
Hummels suffered the injury in his last match with Borussia Dortmund against Bayern in the DFB Pokal Final.
"When I'll be back? It depends on how I feel and what the coach thinks about my fitness," Hummels said. "Ideally I'd be ready for the first game against Ukraine, but it would not be a problem if I make my comeback in the second or third game."
With Hummels out, Jogi Löw has several options in the squad. Schalke's Benedikt Höwedes is the natural choice to replace Hummels in the starting lineup. However, options such as Shkodran Mustafi, Antonio Rüdiger, and Joshua Kimmich remain.
Germany play Ukraine on June 12, Poland on June 16, and Northern Ireland on June 21.
