One day after Robert Lewandowski's agent went public that they've held discussions with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich have already issued a response. In an interview with Kicker, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge made a declarative statement leaving no room for any ifs, ands, or buts.
"One thing I know for sure -- Robert Lewandowski will play at Bayern Munich in the coming season."
"The decision has been made. We will not sell Robert Lewandowski. No matter which offer we will receive. There is no pain barrier." - Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Kicker (translation via ESPN FC)
Lewandowski is under contract at Bayern through the end of the 2018-19 season, and while contracts don't necessarily mean a lot in world football these days, it does give Bayern some advantage as they continue to negotiate a new contract with a big pay raise for Lewandowski.
While Madrid's reported offer of €25 million a season will not be matched by Bayern, the club will look to use other mean to convince Lewandowski that Bayern is the club for him and his future.
