Robert Lewandowski is in contact with Real Madrid and the financials at play are huge

When you score 42 all competition goals as Robert Lewandowski just did, the world's biggest and richest club is going to come in with briefcases loaded to the gils and see what your price is. Unluckily for Bayern Munich, the Polish striker is listening.

“Real Madrid contacted us a few weeks ago, we listened to everything they said. It’s a big and exciting club,"

"We have informed FC Bayern that we’ve held talks with Madrid.” - Cezary Kucharski, Spiegel (translation via The Guardian)

And reports suggest this isn't just an idle check-in as Real Madrid could propose a six-year contract worth €25M per season. That alone is a €150M investment in Lewandowski and when you add on the transfer price that's going to be required to pry him out of the remaining three years on his Bayern Munich contract, it's easy to see a situation where this deal tops out well in excess of €200M.

That doesn't even begin to mention the havoc this move would play with Bayern Munich's offseason plans. Because if Lewandowski wants to move to Real Madrid, there isn't much Bayern are going to be able to say. And that's the reality of the financial might of the Spanish club.
