Bayern Munich will face Borussia Dortmund in the 2016 DFL-Supercup. Dortmund had an impressive season finishing second in the Bundesliga and giving Bayern a run for their money. This will be Bayern's fifth straight Supercup and tenth overall appearance. They've featured in the preseason competition six of the last seven years.
The DFL-Supercup puts the winners of the previous season's Bundesliga and DFB Pokal in a match prior to the start of the Bundesliga campaign. The non-league-winning club hosts the match, so Bayern will be traveling to the Signal Iduna Park on August 14 to face Dortmund. If one team wins the double (Bundesliga and German Cup), the winner plays the runners-up of the Bundesliga. If the game is tied after 90 minutes, the match is then decided by a penalty shootout.
This will be the fifth DFL-Supercup match between Bayern and Dortmund. In previous four encounters, Dortmund won three times, while Bayern won only once.
This will be Carlo Ancelotti’s first official match as head coach of Bayern Munich and Mats Hummels' first competitive match for the club during his second tour of duty with the club.
