Bayern Munich were handed their fate in the UEFA Champions League semifinals. The five time winners are set to do battle with Spanish giants and two time runners-up in 1973-74 and 2013-14 Atletico Madrid.

The Bavarians will have their hands full with Atletico, as Los Rojiblancos are a force to be reckoned with after eliminating the current titleholders Barcelona in the quarterfinals. The last time the two sides played in the European Cup/ Champions League, when they met in Brussels to contest the European Cup final in 1974, where Hans-Georg Schwarzenbeck scored the equalizing goal in the last minute of extra time with a long-range effort. In the replay Bayern won convincingly, with two goals each from Uli Hoeneß and Gerd Müller, giving Die Roten a 4–0 victory.

However, Los Colchoneros ("The Mattress Makers") are still one of the most successful clubs in Spain with ten La Liga Titles, ten Copa del Rey titles, two Europa League titles, one European Cup Winners’ Cup and one Intercontinental Cup.

The games between Bayern and Atletico Madrid will be played on April 27 and May 3.
