Bayern Munich have signed a two year contract extension with captain Melanie Behringer. With her contract set to expire in the summer of 2017, the Bavarians moved quickly to secure the services of the Germany international long-term.
"Melanie knows how to win titles," Bayern manager Karin Danner said. "With her strengths and experience our team will maintain quality and stability in the long run."
Behringer has been an ever present figure in the midfield since rejoining Bayern in the summer of 2014, helping the club win their first ever Bundesliga trophy. This season, Bayern are unbeaten in all competitions and cruising to their second consecutive league title.
Despite being knocked out of the Women's Champions League on away goals, Behring is bullish on the club's future. "I'm proud and happy that I'll be able to play at Bayern Munich in the future. I have a tremendous amount of fun and want to continue down this successful path," she said. "There's a lot of potential in our team and it's a great privilege to be a part of this great development. A big ‘thank you' to all those responsible and the whole team at FC Bayern for putting such great trust in me."
With six games left in the Frauen Bundesliga season, Bayern have a twelve point lead on second place Wolfsburg.
