Is everyone pumped for midweek Bundesliga action?

It is the start of the busy season for the Bundesliga teams competing in European competition with two teams in the league still competing on all three fronts. Wednesday sees Bayern Munich hosting Mainz at the Allianz Arena in a game sandwiched in between road trips to Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund.

Mainz, however, aren't set to be a pushover of any sort. Martin Schmidt's club is putting together another fantastic season and currently find themselves tied on points with Borussia Mönchengladbach for fourth place. With Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke sniffing at their heels only one point back, it will be interesting to see Mainz's approach to the match. They have a much friendlier match at the weekend when the host Darmstadt before a visit to Dortmund.

It is expected that Bayern supporters will see the return of Medhi Benatia and Mario Götze to the field, as Pep Guardiola wants to get the two some minutes on the field before the weekend's trip to Dortmund. While Benatia has seen some time since recovering from his injury, Götze has yet to make a triumphant return. A match in front of the home fans at the Allianz Arena is surely the ticket for their return.

Once the lineups are released, this thread will be updated.
