Bayern Munich fans were alarmed earlier today when Robert Lewandowski's agent Cezary Kucharski was reported as claiming that "something was going on" between Robert Lewandowski and Real Madrid, Lewandowski allegedly demanding a salary of €18 million to stay at Bayern.
Now Kucharski has changed his tune. In an interview with Polish broadcaster "Polsat Sport," Kucharski now denies any link between Lewandowski and Real Madrid: "Real has not initiated any negotiations. It is all speculation." (Abendzeitung)
Quite to the contrary, the Polish striker's agent revealed that negotiations are already underway with Bayern Munich on a contract extension: "We have begun to talk about it. I can confirm that." He added, "Lewandowski plays for a team that fits him and there is no reason to change anything."
Lewandowski's second agent Maik Barthel likewise confirmed that "There has been no contact with Real Madrid since Lewandowski signed with Bayern Munich." Barthel has told BILD that "Robert is happy at Bayern, and we are too." Lewandowski is playing on a "world-class level" and can "now already look forward to his new contract."
Lewandowski's contract currently runs until 2019. Bayern Munich extended the contracts of core-players Thomas Müller, Jerome Boateng, and Javi Martinez late last year and now seems poised to extend their record-breaking striker, as well.
