Saying that Robert Lewandowski has had a great season so far is an understatement. The Poland international is in the process of putting together a season that has only been bested by the great Gerd Müller.
It hasn't mattered who he's partnered with on the field, Lewandowski has turned in brilliant performance after brilliant performance for FC Bayern. Alongside his regular strike-partner Thomas Müller, the two have knocked in 48 goals to date in this campaign.
Here are Lewandowski's stats from this season:
- 19 goals in 18 Bundesliga games
- 27 goals in 28 games in all competitions
For the longest time, talk from a segment of supporters and non-supporters alike has been that a forward cannot succeed under Pep Guardiola due to the team's style of play.
"If Zlatan Ibrahimovic couldn't succeed under Pep Guardiola at Barcelona, how will Robert Lewandowski do it at Bayern Munich?"
Easily.
Robert Lewandowski is a better player than Zlatan Ibrahimovic. End of discussion.
While it's very unlikely that Lewandowski will surpass Gerd's record of 40 goals in a single Bundesliga season, 30 goals is a legitimate target for him. He's already scored more this season than he did all of last year, and his personal record of 24 goals is very likely to come crashing down.
