Bayern Munich travel to Mainz for Friday’s big Bundesliga match. Mainz actually have the opportunity to claim their second victory over Bayern in a row, if they manage to pull another upset. They won at the Allianz Arena back in the spring during Pep Guardiola’s final few matches in the Bundesliga.

Despite shouts from a certain part of the fan base, Carlo Ancelotti has received the full backing of the club and the players despite some recent shaky play. Still, everyone involved knows that things can and needs to get better.

Defensively, Bayern haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last seven matches in all competitions. With an ever-changing centerback rotation of Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels, Javi Martinez and Holger Badstuber due to health reasons, nobody has been able to get very comfortable with a partner.

On the attack, Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski need to wake up. After the first twelve matches of the Bundesliga season, the two have only combined to score seven goals, and all of those goals have come from Mr. Lewandowski.

A victory will pull Bayern into the lead at the top of the Bundesliga table on goal differential. However, in Saturday’s big match, RB Leipzig host Schalke with the opportunity to stay on top.
