Mario Gomez returns to Munich as an opponent, as he leads Wolfsburg up against his former club Bayern Munich. The former striker scored a ton of goals during his time at the Allianz Arena, and he’ll need to find that scoring touch once again if Wolfsburg can win.
Carlo Ancelotti will be without Mats Hummels for the match, as the defender missed Friday’s training with an illness. Ancelotti revealed in his press conference that Jerome Boateng could (and likely, will) step into the void left by Hummels for the match, as he’s returned from his recent injury.
The biggest news from Wolfsburg is that head coach Valérien Ismaël has left Julian Draxler back in Wolfsburg ahead of the clash. This all stems from Wolfsburg’s refusal to sell Draxler this summer after he requested a transfer, and their lack of bringing anyone else into the club to boost the squad. He’s not happy with them. They’re not happy with him. There’s no way these two don’t separate this winter.
With three points on the line, Bayern should defeat a weakened Wolfsburg.
