Austria needs a win here.

David Alaba has been called up to Austria’s squad for an upcoming World Cup Qualifier against the Republic of Ireland and a friendly against Slovakia. The WCQ is an important match for Austria as they seek to make their first World Cup since 1998.

Austria are three points behind Serbia and the Republic of Ireland who sit at the top of the group. With Serbia facing a tough match away to Wales, Austria have a chance to move right into the thick of things with a win at home.

Alaba has been playing well for Bayern Munich so far this season, even when dealing with a rotating cast of wingers playing ahead of him. He remains integral to Austria’s chances of success.

Former Bayern midfielder Alessandro Schöpf was, once again, named to the squad as well.

Austria will play the Republic of Ireland in Vienna on November 12 and Slovakia in Vienna on November 15.
