There’s been a lot of speculation in recent months about the vacant Sporting Director position at Bayern Munich. One name regularly linked with the job has been the Bavarian-born Max Eberl, who holds a similar position at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
However, one name continues to be bandied about with the position and has clearly become the frontrunner. That man is Bayern legend Philipp Lahm.
Following Friday’s AGM, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was asked about the open sporting director position. "We have a sporting director in mind,” he said. “But at the moment he still has to play soccer."
With Lahm recently discussing the possibility of retiring at the end of the current season, perhaps he is eyeing that open Sporting Director position.
