Jerome Boateng was substituted out of Bayern Munich’s 3-2 loss against Rostov in the UEFA Champions League just before the hour mark. After the match, the bad news came out that Boateng was suffering from a thigh injury forcing his removal.
Carlo Ancelotti will be forced to rely on the centerback pairing of Holger Badstuber and Mats Hummels if Boateng is unable to go against Bayer Leverkusen this weekend. Not having the world’s best centerback against Chicharito isn’t a situation that Bayern want to be in.
The extend of the thigh injury isn’t known at this time. Boateng will be evaluated by Bayern’s medical staff when the team returns to Munich early Thursday morning.
Following the Leverkusen match, Bayern have almost an entire week off before their next match against Mainz. However, following that a few days later is a match against Atletico Madrid. Even though the match is meaningless from a standings perspective, Bayern and Ancelotti want (need?) a good showing and potentially a victory to keep some of the criticism away.
