Manuel Neuer is set to miss Bayern’s Champions League clash with Rostov this Wednesday as he will not travel with the team due to a “tight calf muscle,” according to fcb.de.
Manuel Neuer will not feature for FC Bayern in Wednesday's Champions League trip to Rostov. The World's Best Goalkeeper has a tight calf and sat out Monday's squad training session. Coach Carlo Ancelotti has opted to rest his number one for the meeting with the Russian runners-up. Neuer will instead remain in Munich for treatment and an individual training programme.
This will be just the fifth game Neuer will miss due to injury in a Bayern uniform, an impressive mark. And while you never like to see a player miss a game with an injury, this really doesn’t sound any more serious than it seems. Here’s to hoping that he’ll be raring and ready to go against Leverkusen this weekend.
As for Sven Ulreich, Wednesday will mark his season debut for Bayern between the sticks, and just his fourth appearance overall since making the switch to the Bavarian giants two summers ago, assuming he’s picked ahead of Tom Starke. Ulreich was brought in to back-up Neuer for 3.5€ Million as a replacement for Pepe Reina, who left Bayern in search of more playing time before the start of last season.
