With the international break in full force, Carlo Ancelotti had a plan for Holger Badstuber. To help him continue his recovery from injury, the Bayern Munich centerback was going to play a match from the start with the reserves.

So, when Bayern II took the field at the Grünwalder Stadion to take on SV Seligenporten, Badstuber was in the starting lineup. He would go the full distance in the match with Ancelotti in the stands watching the match.

Badstuber revealed after the match that Ancelotti actually came to him at halftime to check on him and see if he thought he would be able to play the second half. After giving an affirmative answer, Badstuber went back out to complete the match.

While he admitted post match that he’s probably only at “85 or 90 percent”, having Badstuber as an option for the upcoming match against Borussia Dortmund is huge. If Jerome Boateng is unable to go, Badstuber needs to be ready.
