Arturo Vidal and Chile marched into a Quito today and felt the wrath of Ecuador. A 3-0 victory for the hosts put them in a tie for first place in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying. Chile are currently five points back and out of a qualifying spot.

However, the more important and amazing thing that happened the match was what happened in the 82nd minute of the match. At that point, Everton’s Enner Valencia was subbed out of the match for Ecuador due to what appeared to be an injury.

However, as he was being carted off the field directly to the tunnel, Ecuadoran police providing security at the match began to chase after Valencia.

At Ecuador practice on Wednesday, Valencia was confronted by police over more than £13,000 in delinquent child support payments to the mother of his child in Ecuador.

So, it appears as though the plan was to serve Valencia with an arrest warrant after the nation’s match against Chile, and he faked an injury to escape the field of play and go straight to a hospital where he would try to escape the country without being served.

CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying is never boring.
