Javi Martinez is set to miss Bayern Munich’s match on Tuesday against PSV Eindhoven after picking up an injury during the Saturday’s victory over Augsburg. The club announced on Sunday that Martinez suffered pulled thigh muscle.
When Martinez was subbed out at the half hour mark, he jogged off the field without any assistance. While he didn’t look to be in any pain, he did motion toward his leg as he approached Carlo Ancelotti on the sideline. In his post match press conference, Ancelotti stated that they took him out immediately, because they didn’t want to take any chances.
Bayern won’t be in any trouble against PSV or Hoffenheim at the weekend with Martinez out. Ancelotti will turn to Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng as first choice with the now healthy Holger Badstuber as the backup.
With the international break approaching, it’ll help some of these niggling injuries to heal with some time off.
In other news, Rafinha returned to training and will be available against PSV. The Brazilian left Bayern’s match against Borussia Mönchengladbach last weekend with a groin injury.
