Record cup-winners Bayern Munich will face another Bundesliga club in the DFB-Pokal, getting paired with VfL Wolfsburg in the Round of 16. The matchup will be the first time these two clubs have met in the German cup since last year.
Bayern defeated Wolfsburg 3-1 away in the second round of the cup competition last year, Douglas Costa opened the scoring for Bayern and Thomas Müller followed with a brace while Andre Schürrle scored a consolation goal for Wolfsburg. The Bavarians will get to play at home this time around. The round of 16 ties will take place on 7 and 8 February 2017.
The other matches in the Pokal between Bayern and Wolfsburg were in 1997, when Bayern beat Wolfburg 4-3 in the second round via penalties. They wouldn't meet again until the 2001-02 cup when Bayern beat Wolfsburg 2-1 in the round of 16. Then, in the semifinals of the 2007-08 cup season Bayern beat Wolfsburg 2-0. In the semifinals of the 2012-13 cup season Bayern hammered Wolfsburg 6-1.
