After breaking onto the scene in 2013/14 with 15 goals and 8 assists for Bayern II, many expected Julian Green to rise quickly and become a regular first team member. Unfortunately, his development has stalled since, and he’s made only three appearances with Bayern’s first team in all competitions.
A strong pre-season under Carlo Ancelotti, which most notably saw him score a first half hat-trick against Inter Milan, gave old fans new hope, and with the coach dubbing him the back-up striker, it seemed he could finally get an opportunity with the first team.
Tomorrow, the 21-year-old will finally get his chance. At least if twitter is to be believed.
According to Sport Bild reporter Tobia Altschäffl, Green was part of the first XI in practice, indicating that he was likely to start the game on the field as opposed to the bench for just the second time in his Bayern career.
Surprise: Julien Green was today in @FCBayern starting lineup for tomorrows @DFB_Pokal-Match against @FCAugsburg @SPORTBILD @J_Green37

Green is coming off of an international break where he scored in each of his appearances for the United States. If he can carry his good form into the Augsburg match, there’s no reason to believe this will be his last start for Bayern.
In other, equally exciting news, the reporter tweeted that Holger Badstuber also practiced a half with the first XI. Should he make his return, I’m sure the crowd will let him know just how much they’ve missed him at the Allianz Arena.
