Thiago Alcantara and Javi Martinez will be joining up with Spain as they prepare for two upcoming World Cup Qualifiers. The two Bayern Munich players will join up with Julen Lopetegui before trips to Italy and Albania.
Javi has arguably been Bayern’s best player so far in this young season. His stability at centerback next to the interchanging Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng has been something of a revelation. Healthy Javi Martinez is a great player.
As for Thiago, he’s in a stacked midfield, but he’s become so good at the defensive-side of being an attacking midfielder, that he’s going to force himself into being one of the first names on the teamsheet.
Thiago and Javi are joined in the squad by former Bayern goalkeeper Pepe Reina. The Napoli number one has enjoyed a big renaissance in his career since returning to Napoli in the summer of 2015.
Spain will hit the road in both of their qualifiers in this window. They’ll face Italy on October 6 in Turin and Albania on October 9 in Shkodër.
