Bayern Munich are in serious injury trouble again as Javi Martinez will be out for the forseeable future.
The Bayern Munich centerback underwent tests this week for knee discomfort which discovered a minor issue in his left knee. He will undergo surgery on Monday and will be out for several weeks after that. However, the definition of "several weeks" seems to vary between outlets. Marca suggests that Martinez may miss between two and three weeks, while Sport1 reports that Martinez is likely to miss the entire Juventus tie which would be five weeks.
Martinez's injury coupled with the loss of Jerome Boateng for the season and Medhi Benatia's chronic woes leaves Bayern with just one fit centerback in Holger Badstuber. Given his injury reputation over the last several years and it's all storm clouds when it comes to the backline. And with the transfer window nearing a close and the quality of the available centerbacks not up to the quality Bayern needs, there are no reinforcements beyond shifting players out of their favored positions.
UPDATE: Matthias Sammer updated Javi's status this morning, stating that the injury is not a big concern. Martinez will be re-examined tomorrow and surgery may not be necessary.
