Bayern Munich signed an agreement with Doha airport to be the new club sponsor, the club announced in a statement on Wednesday.

"I'm happy to welcome Doha Airport as a sponsor," said chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as part of the statement. "This partnership is a further step in our international strategy, he added. According to Rummenigge, part of the sponsorship agreement is that the club and the airport will work together to promote social projects and dialogue on important issues of social policy."

The new Doha International Airport opened in 2014 and is one of the biggest hubs in the Middle East with passenger processing capacity of 8.700 per hour and 30 million per annum. Doha's Hamad International Airport will advertise at the club's Allianz Arena Stadium.

Doha, the capital of Qatar, has been Bayern's training destination during the last six winter breaks. Several of the trips have included playing friendlies against Qatar-based clubs, including playing the Qatari All-Star Team in 2015.
