UPDATE: Bayern Munich have released new information that Jerome Boateng has suffered an adductor muscle injury. We'll have more information as it becomes available. The original article is below.
Just when you think it couldn't get any worse, it gets worse. Jerome Boateng came off in the second half of Bayern Munich's match against Hamburg with an injury. The world's best centerback needed assistance from the training staff as he limped off the field.
Boateng and Hamburg's Dennis Diekmeier came together it what was a rather innocuous challenge, but the Bayern man immediately signaled for a substitution. Boateng was replaced by Javi Martinez is the 55th minute.
Boateng is the team's anchor at the back and is the "clean up man" to bail his fellow defenders and midfielders for their mistakes. We know how good Holger Badstuber can be, but we know how good Jerome Boateng is. With Medhi Benatia already on the sideline with an injury, any sort of long term injury to Boateng could derail any plans that Bayern had of returning to the top of the European mountain.
This could be a significant loss for FCB.
