Bayern Munich Frauen sign Florida soccer star Claire Falknor

FCB add a defender to their roster ahead of the second half of the season.

Bayern Munich have announced the signing of Claire Falknor who last played at the University of Florida. The 22 year old has signed an 18 months contract that will keep her in Munich through the end of the 2016-17 season.

"Claire is a young and very talented defensive player who consciously chose a challenge in a foreign country,"  coach Thomas Wörle said. "She's very adaptable in the defense and has both athletic as well as football-specific strong points. I'm looking forward to an exceptionally determined footballer."

"I am excited and grateful to have the opportunity to play for one of the most prestigious clubs in Europe," Falknor said. "I am looking forward to challenging myself outside of my comfort zone and growing as a person and a player."

Falknor was named a NSCAA All-American for her senior season at Florida being named to the third team. Last year, she was called up to the USA U-23 team that competed in the Four Nations Tournament where she made two appearances, including one start.

"Falknor is a very technical defender who thrived in Florida's possession-based approach to the game. Moving to Europe is a smart decision, as a more tactical league is going to be much more suited to her game," Travis Clark with Top Drawer Soccer told BFW. "She'll need to find the right position and adapt to the demands of a higher level, but she's a good player who can make a contribution this season."
