Bayern Munich won their opening match in the 2015-16 DFB Pokal against Duisburg on Sunday. The victory moves FC Bayern onto the third round of the competition. They'll find out their opponents in the next round which will be played on November 7/8.
It wasn't the best of first halves for Bayern, and Duisburg had a few opportunities to take the lead. However, Tinja-Riikka Korpela was able to keep the 2.Bundesliga club at bay. Once the second half came around, FC Bayern took control and never looked back.
Sara Däbritz kicked off Bayern's second half with a goal to get the energy going in the Bavarian side. In the 57th minute, Carina Wenninger gave FCB the two goal lead with a powerful header. Eunice Beckmann scored to cap the result in the 79th minute a few minutes after coming on as a substitute.
"We made it too complicated for ourselves in the first half and were a bit lucky after a few defensive mistakes," coach Thomas Wörle said after the match. "We should have also taken the lead earlier. Luckily we found solutions in the second half and grabbed the lead quickly.
FCB returns to the field on October 4 away to Werder Bremen in the Frauen Bundesliga before visiting FC Twente a few days later in the Champions League.
