Bayern Munich and Karlsruher SC have announced that the two clubs will play a friendly against each other on January 16, 2016 at the Wildparkstadion in Karlsruhe. The friendly is "owed" to Karlsruhe as part of an agreement (in addition to €200,000) for letting their U19 coach Tim Walter join FC Bayern. Walter is now the head coach of Bayern's U17 team.
"We are very pleased that the match will take place," said KSC President Ingo Wellenreuther. "It's hard to imagine a more attractive opponent from both a sporting perspective as well as for our fans as part of our preparation."
Karlsruhe nearly won promotion into the Bundesliga at the end of last season, but they lost a dramatic playoff tie to Hamburg.
It will be Bayern's final friendly before the start of the Rückrunde. On January 23, the Bavarians will head to the Imtech Arena to reopen the Bundesliga season against Hamburg.
