Bayern Munich returns to the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday with a visit to the Greek record champions. The Georgios Karaiskakis Stadion in Piraeus will see Olympiacos host FC Bayern. It's Bayern's first European match in Greece in over 30 years.
Yes, Bayern will be without Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery in the match, but the return of Mario Götze will be a boost to Pep Guardiola's side. On paper, the Bavarians will be the big favorites, but visiting Greece is never an easy adventure.
The question for Bayern on the day will, once again, come from the defense. Jerome Boateng is the only centerback available for FCB due to Mehdi Benatia's injury. Guardiola has shown that he's willing to trust Xabi Alonso in that role. However, the option exists to put David Alaba in the spot with Juan Bernat wide left. Though, there is a wild card now with Javi Martinez back in the squad.
Bayern will visit newly promoted Darmstadt at the weekend, so Guardiola is likely to experiment a little more then. That is, before they visit Wolfsburg next week in a big Bundesliga clash.
Once the lineups are released, this thread will be updated.
