Since Pep Guardiola arrived in Munich in the summer of 2013, only one club has managed to beat Bayern Munich more than once in the Bundesliga. That club is FC Augsburg. Markus Weinzierl will attempt to beat Guardiola for the third time in as many seasons.
However, the one similar strain in those two Augsburg wins is the fact that both occurred during the second half of the season after FC Bayern had clinched the Bundesliga. This time, Bayern will be not only prepping for their upcoming Champions League match, but this currently isn't the same Augsburg. With only one point out of their first three matches, Augsburg need to find their footing.
Three wins out of three for Bayern puts them level on points at the top of the table, but there remains work to do. As one player returns to health, another player falls. Bayern showed against Bayer Leverkusen that they didn't need a centerback, but at least Jerome Boateng returns in this match.

With Arjen Robben missing due to an injury, Mario Götze is likely to find himself slotted into the lineup in his place. He showed well for Germany during the international break, and it will be interested to see if he and Thomas Müller can form the bond at the club level that they've shown on the international stage.
Bayern's strength will be on the left side of the field with David Alaba providing backup for Douglas Costa on the flank. Costa has proven his quality since debuting for Bayern and is going to be a force to be reckoned with all season long.
The rotating midfield trio of Arturo Vidal, Xabi Alonso, and Thiago Alcantara should give Götze the freedom to float behind and exchange positions with the front attacking three. Expect Bayern's front four to be interchanging throughout the match to give Augsburg's backline all of the headaches.
Projected Lineup (3-4-3 Diamond):
Douglas Costa – Robert Lewandowski – Thomas Müller
Arturo Vidal – Xabi Alonso – Thiago Alcantara
David Alaba – Jérôme Boateng – Philipp Lahm
Bench: Sven Ulreich, Juan Bernat, Javi Martínez, Rafinha, Sebastian Rode, Joshua Kimmich, Kingsley Coman
Out/Suspended: Holger Badstuber (thigh), Medhi Benatia (thigh), Jan Kirchhoff (ankle), Franck Ribery (ankle), Arjen Robben (Groin)
Augsburg's rise in recent seasons is utterly remarkable. Before the 2011-12 season, FCA had never played a match in the first division. Last year, they finished in fifth place and are set to compete in the UEFA Europa League this season. Their success hinged on a decision a few seasons ago when the board chose to stick with Markus Weinzierl when Augsburg were in a poor run of form. He was able to avoid relegation that season and has since taken Augsburg supporters to a dream world that they never thought they would see.
To beat this Bayern Munich team, Augsburg have one game plan: defend and counter. Raul Bobadilla showed last season that he has the ability to slip behind the Bayern defense and strike. That will be the target on the day for FC Augsburg.
Projected Lineup (4-1-4-1):
Tobias Werner – Halil Altintop – Koo Ja-Cheol – Alexander Esswein
Konstantinos Stafylidis – Ragnar Klavan – Hong Jeong-Ho – Paul Verhaegh
Bench: Alexander Manninger, Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker, Christoph Janker, Markus Feulner, Dominik Kohr, Piotr Trochowski, Ji Dong-Won
Out/Suspended: Caiuby (muscle injury), Philipp Max (illness), Sascha Mölders (back), Jan Movárek, Daniel Opare (muscle issues), Shawn Parker (knee), Marco Schuster (groin)
For Augsburg to pull the upset at the Allianz Arena this time, they have to hope that the injuries and "looking ahead" catch up with Bayern. Unfortunately for them, Douglas Costa and Thomas Müller have been in stunning form to start the season, while Mario Götze and Robert Lewandowski are coming off of great performances during the international break. If Bayern are able to get the early goal, they will find it fairly easy against Augsburg.
