Javi Martínez has struggled with knee issues for months after his ACL and MCL operation last season. Having to recover most of the summer, Martínez did a vigorous training session on Monday, an important step closer to a September return.

Martínez received two appearances after returning from his knee injury. The 26-year-old has yet to play this summer though, but previous reports expect him back after the FIFA international break.
Though Bayern did not have a trained center back in their lineup on Saturday, the squad is confident enough in the center back depth to let Dante seek consistent playing time at Wolfsburg. Sporting director Matthias Sammer also said last week Bayern do not have any intentions of acquiring another center back before the transfer window closes. If Javi Martínez returns to full fitness in the next few weeks, he would provide Bayern with the depth they are confident they have.
