Douglas Costa is everything that any team could ever want in a winger. Bayern Munich are thanking their lucky stars every day that they were able to sign the Brazilian from Shakhtar Donetsk. Plus, after seeing what players like Angel Di Maria, Kevin De Bruyne, and Raheem Sterling are going for these days, Costa certainly appears to be a steal.
Bayern opened the scoring against Bayer Leverkusen with three exquisite plays. Xabi Alonso, being deployed in a deep centerback-like position, launched a perfect long ball to Costa into space. Costa shrugged off Roberto Hilbert to maintain possession of the boy before smacking a cross into the penalty area. With one touch of the ball, Thomas Müller poked it past Bernd Leno for the 1-0 lead.
"We've watched Leverkusen a couple of times," Müller said. "They play very intense football, but producing that kind of hard-running performance isn't easy when they've had a midweek game. We should have made more of our chances at the end."
As FC Bayern progress forward in the season, the sky is the limit for FCB's attack with Douglas Costa patrolling the wing and Thomas Müller doing his thing... everywhere.
