Philipp Steinhart Lifts Bayern Munich II Late vs. Schalding Heining

Bayern II continue to stay close to perfect Jahn Regensburg.

Bayern Munich II continued their roll over the weekend, winning their third straight against SV Scalding Heining to climb closer to the top of the table. However, this game matched the theatrics of the first team, although maybe not as dramatic.

Philipp Steinhart scoring a late match winner to secure the three points, finishing off the scoring chance Steevan Ribéry set up for him. Matthias Strohmaier also got on the score sheet, scoring the equalizer just before halftime. Those goals were both Steinhart's and Strohmaier's first goals of their Regionalliga Bayern career.

"Of course it was important to get the three points. It was the awaited tough tie with a happy ending for us. A big complement for the team from Schalding Heining, who defended very well," said coach Heiko Vogel after the match.

Bayern II won again at midweek, recording another 2-1 victory against SpVgg Bayreuth thanks to Julian Green and Ribéry. They now sit second only to Jahn Regensburg, who continued their perfect start as they try to climb back to the third division.

The one problem Bayern II continue to be having is in defense. They conceded goals in five of their first six matches, but have overcome their defensive shortcomings with goals of their own. Vogel continues to use three defenders in the back though, trying to keep the plethora of wingers on the field at the same time.

"We need to learn how to stabilize our defense," said Vogel.

Bayern II will wait to play their next Regionalliga match until September, but several reserve players will likely feature in Bayern's final exhibition of the summer against the Red Barrons.
