As one of the biggest and best clubs in Europe, Bayern Munich are always on the lookout for new talent. And when a 16-year-old wunderkind with senior team appearances gets into a contract dispute with his club before he even signs his first professional contract, you know that the Bayern Munich board are going to sit up and pay attention. That situation is currently unfolding on the French south coast Olympique Marseille's newest young talent, Bilal Boutobba.
The 16-year-old French striker has three senior appearances for Marseille to go along with nearly 20 caps for the French U17 national team and a U17 European Championship trophy. Despite those accolades at that age, according to a report in Foot Mercato, Boutobba is currently at waiting on the French club to sign his first professional contract after rejecting one offer from the club. According to the report, a whole host of who's who's in the financial picture of European clubs including Manchester City, Tottenham, Porto, Juventus, and Bayern Munich have all scouted Boutobba multiple times. In a statement to the paper, a source close to the player said:
"Bilal is very attached to OM is his club and its early start give it good prospects in Marseille. But for now, no agreement has been reached with the Marseille direction. In view of its performance and the clubs courting, OM must make some efforts. " - Foot Mercato via Google Translate
At this point, there shouldn't be a great deal of expectation that this move would come to pass for Bayern Munich. It's still far too early in negotiations, and Boutobba's agents do seem to be using these scouting events to angle for a far bigger payday from Marseille. But given the way Marcelo Bielsa just left the club, and the trust he showed in integrating Boutobba into the senior side, this could be a perfect storm where Bayern Munich can swoop in and snag yet another of the best and brightest talents in Europe.
