Bayern Munich II Win Second in a Row, Move Up to Fifth

Weihrauch continues his good run of from as Vogel packs as many attacking players on the pitch as he can.

Bayern Munich II followed up their impressive 7-2 victory with another one on Saturday against second place Wacker Burghausen. Patrick Weihrauch scored the decisive goal, his fifth in two matches, to help the reserves shoot up to fifth in the table with a 3-2 win.

"The three points were enormously important, because we could affirm the win in Rain/Lech," said reserve coach Heiko Vogel. "Burghausen is a very strong opponent. Until 3-0 we played a very good match."

Karl-Heinz Lappe scored a brace in the first half to give the kleine Bayern a 2-0 lead at halftime. Wacker Burghausen scored two late goals as consolation, including one from former Bayern II striker Marius Duhnke.

"Actually it was our best season performance," said Vogel. "Unfortunately we brought still too much uncertainty on ourselves with negative experiences like the first allowed goal."

Vogel used all of the young wingers he could, putting Julian Green, Sinan Kurt, Fabian Benko, and Patrick Weihrauch all on the field at the same time. Yannick Günzel made his second consecutive start in defense, along with Matthias Strohmaier and Philipp Steinhart. Gerritt Wegkamp, who was Bayern II's leading goalscorer a year ago, has yet to make a start this season.

Meanwhile, Vogel's old side Bayern U19 started their 2015/16 campaign with a scoreless draw with Nurnberg U19. Five players made their debut, including three of the starting four defenders – Marco Friedl, Nikola Gavrić, and Resul Türkkalesi. Having made an appearance late last season, Niklas Tarnat, son of former Bayern defender and development coordinator Michael Tarnat, started as the No. 6.

Bayern II will have to down another top Regionalliga Bayern on Friday, traveling to Passau to take on third-place Schalding-Heining. They then have quick turnaround to make up for postponed matches, hosting SpVgg Bayreuth on Tuesday.
